Can I send what currently is playing on the sound device (iPhone, iPad, PC or Mac; most importantly my MacBook) to my Sonos system in the network? My use case is the following. I would like to hear the sound of my MacBook (like from a video chat or a game or a microphone connected to the mac) on my Sonos system.

Use Audio Midi Setup to turn your iPhone into a new input source on your Mac Now select your iPhone or iPad from the device list on the left and click Enable. Use Audio-In with a microphone or other audio-input device that connect using an audio cable that has a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) audio jack. Power Use the power port, if available, to connect your computer to AC power using a MagSafe cable or adapter.

But I do not always have a Play:5 with an analog input near me. So I would like to feed in the audio output into the Sonos network. The obvious tool for that would be the controller app on my Mac. Is that possible or will it be possible in the near future? John M wrote: Hi Johannes, The short answer is that this is not possible and not currently under consideration. You'll find the topic. But the topic you mentioned is about a different thing.

There they ask, whether it is possible to use the controller app to send music to the computer speaker instead of Sonos components. But I would like to just use my MacBook as another source of sound (like last.fm, spotify, my NAS). So I just would like to feed in the sound from my MacBook via TCP (to my bridge which then sends it to my Sonos system) and not via an Line-In (PLAY:5/CONNECT) or TOSLink (PLAYBAR).

Is this not possible, too? John M wrote: Hi Johannes, The short answer is that this is not possible and not currently under consideration. If all Sonos speakers would have a combined LineIn/TOSLink input like the output in a MacBook, I could connect to any Sonos device with a cable. But still it sounds not like the Sonos solution.

Review Using something like Nicecast is -- to put it mildly -- pedestrian (and adds a lot of latency:/. There are many differing opinions on what this feature would look like and even whether Sonos should pursue it. You'll find the topic. I just spent almost 400€ on a Sonos 5, thinking that now I can stream all my sounds fully digital, without cables from my mobile device and computer to a speaker. And now you are telling me that I can't use the Sonos as an audio output for my computer and the best 'solution' would be an analog cable???? And you are just 'discussing' if this might be a useful future additional feature?

If you have a more complex input-output setup (or you need to record MIDI events), the alternative options mentioned above offer all the flexibility you need. But if you’re only looking for a dead-easy way to record/process your iPad stereo output into your desktop DAW, then the Inter-Device Audio will make your life much easier. We’ll see if Apple will add more features (multi-channel audio, MIDI, etc.). That said, it’s a great time to be able to integrate all these tools (reducing at the same time the clutter on our desks!). Did you already try this feature? Hp laserjet 2100 driver windows 7.
